Essay Prompt: Adoption by same sex couples (Laura Garza) I would like to write an essay regarding same sex adoption. This means I’ll be looking into the adoption of children by same sex couples. In my essay I will discuss the stereotypes and struggles they face in order to adopt, and the laws that prevent them from adopting at all. The laws are created based off the same negative thoughts that created the laws against gay marriage. The laws that deem any person of the LGBTQ+ community as a bad influence on children. In my essay I will list the places where it’s legal for same sex couples to adopt and where it’s not. I will then go on by discussing the laws and reasons as to why these laws were put in place. I will then find the statistics of children being adopted or fostered by same sex couples and look into interviews of same sex couples who have adopted children already. This will allow me to write about their personal experience filled with struggles, pain, and joy. I will also record the reasons for them wanting to adopt rather than them taking an alternative direction. All of this will be discussed as well as gender roles being forced onto the couple, and the lack of equality faced during their struggling times of adopting or daily life. This essay’s main purpose is to provide and inside look into the lives of people who just want to go love. I will be using the search engine EBSCOhost ebook Collection for any articles regarding child adoption by same sex couples.
